Recently I was asked if only males are narcissists. No, females can be narcissistic, though (in general) there are some differences in how the narcissism plays out. Here are 5 common traits of female narcissists.
Both male and female narcissists can be obsessed with money. However, male narcissists want to own and be in control of money at just about any cost, while female narcissists want spending money at just about any cost. Female narcissists will treat themselves to luxury at the expense of others and will engage in romantic relationships with people willing to spend on them (especially for things like plastic surgery, exotic trips, shopping sprees, and makeovers).
⚪️Competitive and Jealous in “Friendships”
The female narcissist sorts her friends into two categories: the compliant ones (who follow along obediently) and the threats (whose success, status, talents, and appearance outshine or eclipse the narcissist). She is profoundly jealous of these “threats” and will underplay and even undermine their achievements. She will also undermine the friendships within the group.
⚪️Disrespectful of Boundaries
Female narcissists adore love-triangles. They will keep exes and admirers inappropriately close in order to stir up jealousy. They also disregard the boundaries of friends, taking liberty with others’ property, time, and money. When partners and friends draw the line, the female narcissist will act injured, attempt to guilt them, and/or express anger.
Both male and female narcissists use seduction. Male narcissists accomplish this through charm and females through sex appeal and sex. Female narcissists flirt unabashedly, even with the husbands and boyfriends of friends, and it is not uncommon for them to be sexually deviant.
Like their male counterparts, female narcissists want all of the attention. This can come at the expense of anyone. They want to be in the spotlight at their daughter’s birthday party, the center of attention at their husband’s award ceremony, and center stage in office dramas.
