What Is Coaching?
Coaching is a dynamic, "in the moment," transformative process driven by the client's desired and identified outcomes. As the International Coaching Federation explains, coaching is “partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential. The process of coaching often unlocks previously untapped sources of imagination, productivity and leadership.” It is a powerful and incredibly meaningful experience.
Each of us has goals we want to attain, challenges we desire to overcome, unknowns we are trying to navigate, and, at times, momentum we’re trying to capture. It is life changing when we come to the realization that an effective ally can partner with us to find the path to the transformation and outcomes we desire. A coach is that ally. Coaching is the guided process that sets you on that path to greater personal and professional fulfillment. Through the use of powerful questions, active listening, thoughtful reflections, and relevant resources, coaching helps you arrive at new possibilities, desired outcomes, and measurable actions steps. What Coaching Is NotCoaching is not counseling, therapy, or treatment for mental health issues. Coaching is separate and distinct from those things. During your coaching sessions, your coach is not functioning as a mental health professional, and coaching is not a substitute for therapy or mental health intervention. Coaching is for people who are emotionally and mentally well-adjusted, but who might feel stuck or stagnant, or who want to explore new possibilities, experience greater fulfillment, discover and possess uncharted territory, and attain new outcomes.
